Change the Chrome OS Version

Prerequisites:

  • USB drive of at least 8 GB

  • Keyboard/Mouse

  • Chrome browser

  • Chromebook Recovery Utility

To change the Chrome OS version on your player, follow these steps:

Step 1: Download the Chrome OS Version

  1. Search for your player.

  2. Select and download the version you wish to install.

Step 2: Install Chromebook Recovery Utility

  1. On your ChromeOS, Windows, or Mac device, open the Chrome browser.

  2. Go to the Chrome Web Store.

  3. In the top right corner, click on Add to Chrome.

  4. When prompted, click on Add Extension.

Chromebook Recovery Utility is now an extension of your Chrome browser.

Step 3: Create the USB Installer

  1. In the Chrome browser, launch the Chrome Recovery Utility extension.

  2. Click on Get Started.

  3. Click on Select a model from a list.

  4. In Select a manufacturer, click on it. (Example with the AOPEN Chromebox Mini)

  5. Click on Continue.

  6. When prompted, insert your USB drive.

  7. In the dropdown menu, select the USB drive.

  8. Click on Continue.

  9. Click on Create.

    Note: During the process, it is normal for Chrome Recovery Utility to display unusual percentages.

  10. When you receive a message indicating that the recovery media is ready, remove the USB drive from the device.

Step 4: Install the Version on the Player

  1. Connect a keyboard to the device.

  2. Turn off the Chromebox.

  3. Insert a paperclip (or a pin) into the recovery button hole. Here is an example with the AOPEN Chromebox Mini:

  4. Press the recovery button with a paperclip while turning on the device.

  5. Once the Chromebox has started, plug in the USB drive.

  6. The installation will start automatically.

  7. Once the installation is complete, remove the USB drive.
