How to connect your iPad to a Brother printer using Wi-Fi

You can connect the Comeen iOS app to your Brother printer over Wi-Fi, as an alternative to Bluetooth. This guide explains how to find your printer's IP address and enter it in the Comeen app so visitor badges print over your network.

Before you start

Make sure the following requirements are met:

  • You're using a supported printer and a supported iPad. For more information, see List of compatible hardware for Visitor Management.

  • Your Brother printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.

  • Your iPad and your Brother printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

  • Enable badge printing is enabled in your Kiosk settings in Workplace.

  • The Printer transport in your kiosk configuration in Workplace is set to iOS application.

  • A Logo is uploaded for your Space (Settings > Space).

Step 1 – Find your printer's IP address

You need the IP address of your Brother printer to connect it to the Comeen app. The steps depend on your printer model.

Brother QL-820NWB

On the printer's screen:

  1. Press Menu.

  2. Go to WLAN > WLAN Status > Infrastructure Mode.

  3. Write down the IP address displayed.

Brother QL-810W

This model has no screen, so you need to print a settings report:

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on and a Brother DK-22251 roll is loaded.

  2. Press and hold the Cut button (✂) for about one second.

  3. The printer prints a settings report. Find the IP Address line in the network section and write it down.

The IP address looks like this: 192.168.1.25

💡 Tip: We recommend asking your IT team to assign a fixed IP address to the printer. If the IP address changes, the Comeen app will lose the connection and badges will stop printing.

Step 2 – Open the Comeen app settings

On the iPad running the Comeen app:

  1. Tap the screen 5 times to open the settings.

  2. Enter your PIN code.

Note: The default PIN code is 0000, unless it has been changed.

Step 3 – Connect the printer by IP address

  1. In the settings, tap Printer.

  2. Select Connect by IP address.

  3. Enter the IP address of your Brother printer.

  4. Confirm to save.

Step 4 – Test badge printing

To make sure everything works, check in a test visitor on the kiosk and confirm that the badge prints.

If the badge does not print, check that:

  • The iPad and the printer are still on the same Wi-Fi network.

  • The IP address entered in the Comeen app matches the printer's current IP address.

  • The Printer transport is set to iOS application in Workplace.
