This article is a step-by-step guide to help you switch from Chrome Sign Builder to Comeen, ensuring a smooth transition to a more integrated and effective signage solution.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
- Access to Chrome Sign Builder: You must retrieve the content you currently display to import it on Comeen.
- Hardware connected to the network: Verify that your devices are connected to the Wifi or via Ethernet, so that you can access them remotely. Be sure to check our technical requirements as well.
- Access to Google Admin Console: Confirm you have the necessary permissions to set up ChromeOS kiosk mode from the Google Admin console.
Step 1: Create your account
To begin using Comeen, you must sign up and create an account.
Please get in touch with our support team at support@comeen.com. They will assist you in creating an account tailored to your needs, guide you through the process, and ensure your account is configured correctly.
Step 2: Export your content
Option A: Export your content from ChromeSignBuilder
Before you can re-create your content in Comeen, you'll need to export all the URLs you are currently broadcasting with Chrome Sign Builder.
- Go to your Chrome Sign Builder - Schedule
-
Click on the content you wish to export and copy its URL
Option B: Export new content
To add new content to your playlist in Comeen, you'll need to get its URL.
Here is an example of how you can export the URL directly from a Google content, in this case from Google Slides:
- Go to your Google Slides deck and click Share in the far-right corner. Change the access to Anyone with the link in General access.
- Go to File > Share > Publish to Web
- Make sure to select the Embed option, as the Link option will not allow you to embed on an external website.
- Configure the time you want for Auto-advance slides, and remember the total time of your deck. Once in Comeen, you'll have to set the display time to the same total amount as your deck. If you have 7 slides that auto-advance every 5 seconds, the display time will be 35 seconds.
- Copy the link from https until delayms=5000.
- Copy-paste the URL into a document where you will keep all your content currently broadcasted via Chrome Sign Builder.
Step 3: Create content in Comeen
With your content's URL exported, you can now begin importing it into Comeen.
- In Comeen, go to Playlists, click on either an existing playlist or + New Playlist
- Once on the playlist, click Add Content.
- Select Website and click Next.
-
Paste the link to the content you previously exported. Add the correct display time you calculated when publishing the slides. If it's a Google Slides, you can Add &rm=minimal flag to the end of the slides URL to remove the player controls at the bottom. Make sure to set Refresh Content automatically and configure it to 720 seconds. Then click save.
- Once saved, you can broadcast the playlist. Here is an article for more information on broadcasting a playlist.
Step 4: Switch to Comeen on your hardware
Once your account is set up, the next step is to switch your existing hardware to Comeen. This involves installing the Comeen application on your devices and configuring them accordingly.
You'll first have to check which ChromeOS version your devices run :
-
You can find details about the ChromeOS devices in the Google Admin console. To view the device list page, go to the drop-down menu Devices, then click on Devices.
-
Select your device by clicking on its serial number.
- You will find the firmware version under OS.
- The first one is the PWA app. This is the newer app that we recommend. Here is how to set it up.
- The second one is the Chrome App. Google deprecated this app, it won't be supported anymore in the future. There won't be a service interruption, but you might run into hardware issues we won't be able to fix. However, this app allows for more website integration. Here is how to set it up.
If your device runs on a ChromeOS version below 98, only the Chrome App will work.
Step 5: Associate your screen
Once Comeen's app is downloaded and launched on your ChromeBox, you will get an association screen:
- Go to the Displays page. Click on the + Associate a Player button to start the process
- On the pop-up screen, enter the code displayed on your player device.
1. If the Display is North or South America, use the US code.
2. If the Display is in Europe or any other continent, use the EU code.
3. After entering the code, you will be prompted to input details about the screen, such as its name and location. Fill in the information and click "Save" to complete the setup.
By following these steps, you will successfully import your content from Chrome Sign Builder to Comeen. For any additional support, feel free to contact our support team.
