The Default content duration setting lets you define this value once for your whole space. Every new content then starts with this duration, which you can still adjust content by content.
Set the default duration of your space
Go to Settings, Information tab.
In the "Default content duration" card, enter a duration in seconds, between 2 and 86,400 seconds (24 hours).
Click "Save".
A message confirms the update. The new value applies immediately to every content created afterwards in the space, whoever creates it.
⚠️ Permission required: only users whose role includes the "Change the general settings" permission can change the value. Other users see the card as read-only, with the current value of the space.
ℹ️ Existing contents are never changed. Changing the default duration only affects contents created after you save.
Add a content
When you add a content to a playlist, the "Display time" field is pre-filled with the default duration of the space. A help line under the field reminds you of this value, for example: "Default for this space: 8 s."
To keep the default duration, save the content without changing the field.
To use another duration for this content only, enter the value you want before saving. The default duration of the space is not changed.
When you reopen an existing content to edit it, the field shows its own stored duration, not the default duration of the space.
💡 Tip: files you drag and drop directly into a playlist also get the default duration of the space. It is the fastest way to add several images with the right duration.
How it works
Initial value. Existing spaces keep the historical duration of 5 seconds: nothing changes until you change the setting. New spaces start at 10 seconds.
Multi-page contents. As with the regular display time, the value applies to each page: an Image content with 3 images and a duration of 8 seconds is shown for 24 seconds in total.
Videos. Contents whose duration depends on the media (for example a video) have no "Display time" field: they play for the full length of the media, and the default duration does not apply to them.
Imported or shared contents. A content imported from another playlist or coming from a shared playlist keeps its own duration. The default duration of the destination space is not applied to it.
CSV import. Contents imported from a CSV file use the duration given in the file's
durationcolumn.History. Every change to the default duration is recorded in the activity history of the space.
To adjust the duration of a content that already exists, see Adjust the Content Display Duration.
FAQ
If I change the default duration, are my current contents updated?
No. Existing contents keep their duration. Only contents created after you save use the new value. To change an existing content, open it and change its display time.
Can I set a different default duration per playlist or per screen?
Not at the moment. The default duration is set for the whole space.
Why can't I change the default duration?
Your role does not include the "Change the general settings" permission. Ask an administrator of your space to add it to your role, or to change the value for you. See Manage User Role Permissions.
Why is a value of 1 second rejected?
The duration must be between 2 and 86,400 seconds, both for the default duration and for the display time of a content. Below 2 seconds, a content does not have time to be read.
Are my views (proof of play) affected?
No. The default duration only changes the initial value of new contents. Playback and statistics work as before.
